GRADUATE ADMISSION


Detailed application and deadline information are available on the School of Social Work website at Master of Social Work (MSW) Admissions. Individuals apply online by visiting the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions website.

Requirements

In order to be considered for admission, applicants to the graduate School of Social Work must have completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited undergraduate institution. Applicants must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 out of 4.0, and applicants who do not have this minimum GPA should address this in their personal statement. Applicants must have a broad liberal arts academic background. Social work experience is not required but is advantageous.

A complete application consists of:

  • résumé;

  • three letters of recommendation;

  • personal statement;

  • official transcripts;

  • practicum evaluation (for advanced standing applicants only); and

  • application fee.

An introductory undergraduate course in statistics that covers descriptive and basic inferential statistical procedures is a prerequisite for the Methods of Social Work Research course in the generalist curriculum of the program but it is NOT a requirement for admission. Students must meet this requirement before they begin the Methods of Social Work Research course.

Admitted students are required to reserve a place in the entering class by submitting a nonrefundable deposit of $200.

To reapply within one year, a new application fee, updated personal statement, one current reference, and an updated résumé must be submitted. After a lapse of one year or more, the entire application process must be repeated.
